Virtual summit to address lack of affordability housing in Pinellas County

PINELLAS COUNTY, Fla. — One of the biggest issues facing families in the Tampa Bay area is finding an affordable place to live.Pinellas County elected leaders, housing experts, Forward Pinellas planning agency officials and residents will discuss the creation of more affordable homes during a series of webinars to starting Friday, October 9.The Homes for Pinellas Virtual Summit follows the county’s recent announcement of an $80 million fund dedicated to expanding affordable housing over the next decade.The aims of the five-part series is to address the dramatic rise in home prices in recent years in Pinellas County as more people move to the area to live and work.RELATED: New affordable housing options coming to Pinellas CountyTopics include current housing supply and demand, innovative financing solutions used by developers and local governments, the link between homes, employment and transportation, and resources for creating more homes that are affordable.Leaders hope to use the Virtual Summit to coordinate a countywide affordable housing strategy.The first session begins Friday at 11:30 a.m.Keynote speaker Dr. Tiffany Manuel, president and CEO of TheCaseMade, will discuss building stronger, more diverse and inclusive communities through public will.
