Periods of Rain, Some Thunder This Afternoon

Deep tropical air overhead will lead to continued rain that could be heavy at times this afternoon.

What You Need To Know

A stalled-out front will meander over the area this afternoon. This will keep a lot of clouds in place this afternoon. Temperatures will stay in the upper-70s to near 80 degrees. Even though it’s not hot, it is very humid out there today.

The steady rain will taper off, but showers and thunderstorms will continue to develop through the afternoon. Some of the storms could produce very heavy rain that could lead to localized flooding in poor drainage areas.

Fortunately, the last few days have been very dry so our soil can handle a fair amount of rain.

Slightly drier air moves over Florida tomorrow, and that means lower rain chances. With a bit more sun, our temperatures will climb into the mid-80s. It will be breezy at times, too.

Another round of tropical moisture swings in midweek from the Caribbean. This will lead to higher rain chances for much of the week ahead and little sunshine. Highs will be in the mid- to upper-80s.

Boating Forecast

Boating will not be the best this afternoon. Even though the steady rain decreases this afternoon, there will still be showers and thunderstorms.

It will also be windy, with a northeast wind of 15-20 mph.

This will lead to seas of 2-4 feet and a moderate chop. Breezy conditions will continue into Monday.

Tropical Update

The Caribbean continues to be our focus for the week ahead. Tropical Storm Gamma will meander near the Yucatán Peninsula of Mexico over the next few days.

The steering currents are weak, so it will move very slowly. Although the storm will stay away from Florida, the moisture being sheared off is partly why we are seeing widespread rain this morning.

The next tropical wave is located over the eastern Caribbean. Conditions will become more conducive for development later this weekend into early next week.

It will likely contribute to higher rain chances for Florida through the next work week.
