Metropolitan Ministries sees 60% drop in volunteers for first time ever

TAMPA, Fla. — Metropolitan Ministries says there has been a 60% drop in the number volunteer for the first time ever, leaving 178 volunteer shifts open.

The nonprofit says volunteers are “urgently needed” to help families in need during the pandemic.

“The scope of need is unprecedented,” said Tim Marks, Metropolitan Ministries’ president and CEO. “We’ve been so fortunate to have the communities’ support, and I have faith that we’ll rally together once again to meet this challenge.”

According to a press release, the nonprofit distributed nearly 40,000 emergency nonperishable food boxes to local families since the pandemic started. The nonprofit also makes 3,000 hot grab-and-go meals daily and distributes them through 30 partner organizations, the release said.

The shifts are designed in accordance with CDC guidelines. Face masks and temperature checks are required.
