ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. — Governor Ron DeSantis announced that the Sunshine State will be entering phase 3 of reopening on Friday.
From St. Petersburg, DeSantis said that restaurants and other businesses may operate immediately at full capacity immediately. DeSantis said the order guarantees that restaurants can operate at a minimum of 50% capacity regardless of local rules.
“There will not be limitations from the state of Florida,” DeSantis said.
DeSantis added that if local governments want to restrict restaurants to operating between 50% and 100% capacity they have to provide justification and identify the costs involved.
During the press conference, he said that restaurants want to reopen and will do what’s necessary to make sure their guests are in safe environments.
“They have worked as hard as anybody to create safe environments,” DeSantis said. “They take this obligation seriously, they want customers to have confidence and so they have every incentive to want to do that going forward.”
DeSantis added that as part of the order, all outstanding fines and penalties against people over local mask mandates are suspended.
“I think we need to get away from trying to penalize people for social distancing and just work with people constructively,” DeSantis said
