Early Season Cold Front to Bring Rain, Cooler Temps

TAMPA, Fla. — The highly anticipated cold front will finally arrive early Wednesday morning. It’s a strong front for this time of year and some areas could see the coldest morning since last May.

A very humid air mass will stick around for a little bit longer before the next cold front swing through. 

Temperatures  will start off in the 70s on Tuesday morning with a mix of sun and clouds. Expect rain showers and thunderstorms to increase in coverage Tuesday ahead of the cold front. 

Rain chances will be around 70% and storms may produce heavy rain. Some showers and storms will linger into Wednesday morning. 

The cold front will slide south of our area Wednesday morning, ending the rain chances from north to south. It will be breezy as the front slides through. 

You’ll notice a drop in humidity Wednesday afternoon. High temperatures will max out around 80 degrees Wednesday afternoon. It will be a pleasant one. 

Thursday morning is expected to be the coolest one of the week. Temperatures are expected to dip into the 50s and 60s, coolest away from the coast. 

The last time Tampa fell below 70 degrees was on May 14th. Thursday morning could be the coolest start in Tampa since last May. 

Expect lots of sun for the remainder of the work week with comfortable conditions. Feel free to crack some of those windows overnight to get some fresh air in the house. 

Boating Forecast

Boating conditions are expected to become hazardous as the next cold front arrives. 

A southwest to west wind of 10 knots will increase to 20-25 knots from the northwest overnight. 

Seas of 2-3 feet on Tuesday will build to 3-6 feet overnight. 

Showers and storms will be scattered to numerous ahead of the cold front. The front will be south of the area by Wednesday afternoon. 

Tropical Update

It’s quiet in the tropics right now. A broad area of low pressure could form over the western Caribbean Sea in a few days.


Gradual development is possible late this week while the system moves slowly west-northwestward over the northwestern Caribbean.
