Carnival Legend based in Tampa collides with cruise ship in Mexico

Two Carnival Cruise ships collided near the Port of Cozumel, Mexico on Friday.

ABC Action News has learned the Carnival Glory collided with the Carnival Legend, which departed from Tampa on December 15.

The collision happened around 8:50 a.m. local time.

Passengers have started posting video showing major damage to the Carnival Glory.

The Carnival Legend was supposed to return to Tampa on Sunday. The Carnival Glory is based in New Orleans.

In a statement, Carnival told ABC Action News the Carnival Glory was maneuvering to dock when it made contact with Carnival Legend, which was already alongside.

Carnival is currently assessing the damage to both ships.

At least one person was injured while trying to evacuate a dinning room on Decks 3 and 4.
