Armed confrontation caught on camera during protest in St. Pete, no one hurt in incident

ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. — An armed confrontation was caught on camera over the weekend in St. Petersburg.

It happened when counter-protesters showed up during a local march following the decision to charge only one of the Louisville Police officers involved in Breyonna Taylor’s death last week.

The production company, Str34m-TV, caught the confrontation between St. Pete Peace Protest marchers and counter-protestors on camera and shared the video with ABC Action News, where you can see the gun.

St. Pete PD says another video showed a marcher pulling a knife before the gun was pulled out by a counter-protester. ABC Action News asked to see the video or a still frame of the man with the knife but department officials say they can’t release that evidence because the investigation is active.

The groups split up after the gun was pulled, and nobody was hurt in the incident.

We tried to reach out to the St. Pete Peace Protest group but have not heard back.

Meanwhile, two St. Pete City Council members expressed their concerns on social media.

Brandi Gabbard said in part, “I am shocked, horrified, concerned and outraged. Peaceful demonstration will always be welcome in St Pete as we fully support 1st Amendment rights. Counter protests, while also legal, are welcome only as long as they are not used as the spark to incite violence and further division in our community.”

Amy Foster wrote, “I support our police. I can’t imagine the weight they carry every day as well hoping to go home to their families safely. I know they are scared too. I support peaceful demonstrations as well and hope that policy changes are brought forward as a result of them nationwide.”

St. Pete Mayor Rick Kriseman plans on talking about the incident Saturday night, during a press conference Tuesday, according to his press team.
